DaCast is completely compatible with flash supporting encoders, including the NewTek TriCaster. Setting up to record over a TriCaster is easy, just setting the acquisition method to “Professional Encoder” in DaCast and entering in the needed details.
After launching TriCaster, click the “New+” button to launch a new session. This will display a series of options where the session name can be entered, video standard and resolution before clicking “Start Session”.
Following this is a screen with three options for Live, Manage, Graphics and Edit. With “Live” highlighted, click “Start Live Production” to begin.
Clicking this will launch the main interface of TriCaster with views for all the monitors, a timetable below and other applications. On this, there is a little button called “Stream” on the upper right, just below the Program Out monitor.
Click the gear icon next to Stream to launch the “Stream Configuration” dropdown. Select Adobe Flash as “Stream Type”. At the right of this is the frame rate, resolution size and bitrate options that can be configured.
Once the desired stream quality is selected, the Properties can then be filled in so the TriCaster can communicate directly with the DaCast servers. The only two critical areas to be filled in here are “Location” and “Stream ID”.
To find this information, login to your DaCast account and go to the “Live” setting. Create a new live channel, set to “Professional Encoder” as the acquisition method, or select one previously created. Under “Stream”, you will have “Stream URL” and “Stream Name” listed for the channel.
Back in TriCaster, under “Stream Configuration”, place the “Stream URL” in “Location” and “Stream Name” in “Stream ID”. Leave the username and password blank and enter any file name you wish at the top. Now click “Close”. When you are ready to broadcast, click the “Stream” button next to the gear where the options were configured to begin live streaming over the internet through DaCast.
